Parliamentary Committees Elect Chairpersons Across Federal Parliament

Kathmandu. On Friday, 10 thematic committees under the House of Representatives and two joint committees of the Federal Parliament elected their chairpersons.

Chairpersons were elected unopposed in nine House of Representatives committees and one joint committee. In one House committee and one joint committee, chairpersons were selected through an election. 

The chairpersons were selected during meetings held on Friday. Samiksha Baskota was elected unopposed as chair of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Ashok Chaudhary for the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee, Ashish Gajurel for the Infrastructure Development Committee, Aakriti Awasthi for the Women and Social Affairs Committee, Hari Dhakal for the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Bharat Bahadur Khadka for the Public Accounts Committee, Sumnima Udas for the International Relations and Tourism Committee, Krishna Hari Budhathoki for the Finance Committee, and Rahbar Ansari for the Industry Committee. 

Bodhanarayan Shrestha was elected unopposed as chair of the Joint Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. Among those elected unopposed, all except Public Accounts Committee chair Khadka are members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. 

Chairpersons for one House committee and one joint committee were selected via election. In the House of Representatives' Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, RSP MP Dr. Ojaswi Sherchan was elected after competing against UML's Guru Baral. 

For the Joint Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State, RSP's Ganesh Karki and Nepal Communist Party's Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) competed, with Karki emerging victorious.
