Department of Agriculture Calls for Participation in Improved Seed Production Subsidy Program

Kathmandu. The Department of Agriculture has called upon local levels to participate in the incentive subsidy program for improved seed production. The department has set a deadline of Baisakh 10 for local levels to submit details regarding the demand for improved seeds and the supply status from seed producers.

Director General of the Department, Prakash Kumar Sanjel, urged seed producers and relevant local levels to participate in the price subsidy program for the use of improved seeds produced through local levels.

With the objective of increasing agricultural production, the department has been providing subsidies as an incentive for improved seed production. The department stated that for authorized source seed producers, a subsidy of Rs 20 per kg will be provided for coarse/medium varieties, Rs 23 per kg for fine varieties, and Rs 34 per kg for Khumal series varieties.

According to Director General Sanjel, for improved seed producers, a subsidy of Rs 17 per kg will be provided for coarse/medium varieties, Rs 22 per kg for fine varieties, and Rs 30 per kg for Khumal series varieties.

Regarding subsidies for farmers on the use of improved seeds, the department stated that a 50 percent subsidy on the specified price will be provided for all varieties of paddy as per the procedure.
