Kaski Police Conduct Sweep Operation in Pokhara During New Year 2083

Pokhara. On the occasion of the New Year 2083, Kaski Police conducted a 'sweep operation' in the tourist city of Pokhara to maintain peace and security, resulting in action against 18 individuals and 41 vehicles. The police took this step following public complaints regarding activities such as consuming alcohol and drugs, causing public disturbances, modifying vehicles to create noise pollution, and disrupting public order.

According to Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet of the District Police Office, Kaski, police teams were deployed at various strategic locations in Pokhara from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Baisakh 1. During the operation, individuals involved in driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as well as those engaged in unruly behavior, were taken into custody from areas including Kahudanda, Chauthe, Methlang, and Begnas in Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Specifically, 8 people and 10 vehicles were detained from the Kahudanda area, while a team including traffic police took action against 9 vehicles in Chauthe. Similarly, 13 vehicles and 5 individuals were detained from the tourist area of Methlang. Furthermore, during checks in the Begnas Lake area, 8 vehicles were penalized, and 4 individuals, including a driver under the influence of drugs, were taken into police custody.

The police stated that further investigation and legal proceedings are underway against all detained individuals and vehicles. The police are maintaining special surveillance on those who modify vehicles to create loud noises and those performing stunts on the roads.
