National Assembly Chair Dahal Departs for 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul

Kathmandu. National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal has departed for Istanbul, Turkey, to participate in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The Federal Parliament Secretariat issued a press release confirming that the parliamentary delegation led by Chair Dahal departed on Baishakh 1.

According to the Secretariat, the team departed at 7:40 AM via a Turkish Airlines flight. Chair Dahal is scheduled to deliver a high-level address on behalf of Nepal at the assembly, which will be held in Istanbul from Baishakh 2 to 6.

He is scheduled to speak on themes of inspiring hope for future generations, securing peace, and ensuring justice. Additionally, he will hold bilateral meetings and discussions with parliamentary leaders from various countries on the sidelines of the assembly. During the assembly, Dahal will also address the 5th Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network, focusing on the role of parliament in ensuring climate-resilient urbanization in the NAM region.

The Nepali delegation led by Chair Dahal includes National Assembly members Dr. Anjan Shakya and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya. During the visit, these lawmakers will participate in various standing committee programs and meetings of the IPU. Specifically, Dr. Shakya will attend the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, while Rokaya will participate in the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs.

Furthermore, Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri informed that another team led by the Secretary General of the Federal Parliament also traveled to Turkey on the same flight to manage the visit and attend the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) meeting.

After completing the IPU Assembly, the NAM Parliamentary Network conference, and other scheduled meetings in Istanbul, the parliamentary team led by Chair Dahal will return home on Baishakh 8. According to the Secretariat, the team is scheduled to land in Kathmandu at 6:15 AM on that day via Turkish Airlines.
