Nepal Stresses Strengthening UN Development System

Kathmandu. Nepal has stressed the need to strengthen the United Nations Development System. Nepal's opinion is that it is indispensable for ensuring multilateralism.

Speaking at the discussion on 'The Future of Multilateralism: Building the UN Development System for Post-2030' held today at the UN headquarters, Nepal's Permanent Representative to the UN, Lok Bahadur Thapa, stressed the need to make the UN Development System capable of addressing the challenges and opportunities after 2030.

According to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Thapa stated that the development system should be strengthened not only for the implementation of the remaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also to encompass future challenges and opportunities.

He emphasized that the UN Development System should be made more effective not only through institutional structure but also through partnership and solidarity. He stated that an effective and relevant development system cannot be built in the future without the active participation of civil society, youth, academia, local governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders.

Permanent Representative Thapa said that the decisions made today will play an important role in building an effective and result-oriented multilateral system for future generations, emphasizing the need to further strengthen international cooperation.
