Triyuga Municipality Urges Sidewalk Vendors to Clear Main Roads in Gaighat

Udayapur. Triyuga Municipality has requested that businesses and vendors refrain from operating on the main sidewalks of the district headquarters, Gaighat. Mayor Basanta Basnet stated that the municipality has conducted an awareness training program for 225 sidewalk vendors and business owners regarding this issue.

Triyuga Municipality City Police Chief Sobit Bot noted that conducting business on the main roads of Gaighat market has obstructed traffic. He said, "Sidewalk vendors have been occupying the footpaths in the market area for a long time, causing obstructions. Despite repeated requests to stop, they remained defiant. Therefore, before resorting to force, we decided to conduct this training program to educate and persuade them."

Mayor Basnet mentioned that the municipality is providing alternative land near the market roads for sidewalk vendors to conduct their business, and has already begun accommodating some of them.

The municipality reported that pedestrians have been facing significant difficulties due to the occupation of sidewalks by various businesses, including clothing, retail, roasted corn, fish, fruit, and footwear vendors.
