Kavitaya Layku Hosts Inaugural 'Poetry Collage' Event Featuring Bhishma Upreti

Kathmandu. The first installment of the 'Poetry Collage' program, organized by Kavitaya Layku, was held on Sunday at Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala, Bijeshwori, with senior poet Bhishma Upreti as the special guest.

The event began with a discussion on the poems collected in Bhishma Upreti's work 'Kathmandu Kaleidoscope' and poems written about Newar civilization and identity, followed by poetry recitations in both Nepal Bhasa and Nepali.

Poet Bhishma Upreti delivered a compelling presentation on capturing ordinary scenes in poetry, focusing on the cultural life and civilization of the Newars of Kathmandu.

Upreti emphasized that the emotional essence of life and culture is reflected in poetry as perceived by the individual. He urged the new generation of poets to learn how to observe the ordinary aspects of life that surround us and transform them into vivid, living words.

The program featured recitations in both Nepal Bhasa and Nepali, covering diverse themes such as the landscape of Kathmandu, human life and death, love, hope, despair, peace, and nature.

Starting with a recitation by Bhishma Upreti himself, 14 poets participated, including Narad Bajracharya, Sudhir Khwabi, Narendra Bahadur Shrestha, Ram Gopal Ashutosh, Sushil Rajopadhyay, Basanta Nakami, Kabindralal Pradhan, Rashmi Napit, Chandra Bahadur Lama, Jeevan Shrestha, and Kavitaya Layku members Rajnimila, Rahena Nakami, Binita Bajracharya, and Manju Shrestha Singh.

According to organization secretary and poet Rajnimila, Kavitaya Layku plans to hold 'Poetry Collage' on the last Sunday of every month, featuring discussions on the experiences, writing, and struggles of senior, talented, and experienced poets alongside poetry recitations.
