Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Visit Russia for Energy Security Talks

Kathmandu. Amidst the escalating global energy crisis, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is set to visit Russia to discuss oil-related matters. Government sources indicate he is scheduled to depart from Jakarta for Moscow on Sunday evening.

According to the President, this visit is directly linked to energy security. Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that oil supply and energy stability have been made the primary agenda for the talks. He noted that President Prabowo will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold detailed discussions on global geopolitics and the state of the energy market.

President Prabowo recently visited South Korea and Japan. He has presented these visits as efforts to strengthen foreign policy. Addressing his ministers, he emphasized that energy security is a national priority and that direct dialogue with major global powers is essential.

Although Indonesia is one of the world's largest economies, it faces a challenging situation in the fuel sector. While the country produces some oil, it remains heavily dependent on imports. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led to rising global oil prices, which has also impacted Indonesia.

Last month, the government announced fuel rationing to control the energy crisis. Additionally, government employees have been mandated to work from home one day a week to conserve energy. The government has committed to not increasing fuel prices in the near future.

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov previously stated that Russia is prepared to supply oil to Indonesia. He indicated that Russia would provide assistance if Indonesia requires it.

Last year, Indonesia joined BRICS, a group of emerging economies including Russia and China. However, President Prabowo has also secured a trade agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump, signaling an attempt to balance the nation's foreign policy.
