President Poudel prorogues both houses of Federal Parliament

Kathmandu. President Ramchandra Poudel has prorogued the ongoing session of both houses of the Federal Parliament.

On the recommendation of the Government of Nepal, Council of Ministers, made on Chaitra 24, President Poudel has prorogued the session effective from 12:00 midnight on Friday, Chaitra 27, 2082 BS.

The Office of the President issued a statement on Thursday, informing that this decision was made in accordance with Article 93, Clause (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. According to the statement issued by the spokesperson of the President's Office, Ritesh Kumar Shakya, the President took this step based on the decision and recommendation of the Council of Ministers. 

With this, the current session of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly will formally conclude. The government recommended this to end the winter session of Parliament and prepare for the budget session.

According to the constitutional provisions of Nepal, the President is empowered to summon and prorogue parliamentary sessions upon the recommendation of the government.
