RSP Remains Undecided on Support for Deputy Speaker Election

Kathmandu. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which holds a decisive role in the election of the Deputy Speaker, has yet to decide which party it will support. The Parliament Secretariat has published the schedule for the Deputy Speaker election, set for tomorrow (Friday) at 4:00 PM.

Nomination registration is open today from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Opposition parties are engaged in internal discussions regarding the filing of candidacies. Joint General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya stated that discussions are ongoing at the top level regarding which party the ruling RSP will support, but no conclusion has been reached yet.

"Discussions are ongoing regarding which party to support for Deputy Speaker. The parliamentary party meeting will finalize it. We have not reached a conclusion yet," he said.

RSP Vice-Chair Dol Prasad Aryal has been elected unopposed.

According to sources, discussions are underway to support one of the new parties, Shram Sanskriti or RPP. However, sources noted that it is too early to say, as discussions are focused on constitutional amendments and the balance of power.

Meanwhile, leader Ramkumar Bhattarai of the Nepali Communist Party, which has staked a claim for the Deputy Speaker position, stated that the decision will be made by the working coordination committee meeting.

"It has not been decided yet who to support. The working coordination committee meeting will finalize it," he said.
