Bagmati Province Government Mandates Minimum Wage for Healthcare Workers

Makwanpur. The Bagmati Province government has issued a directive requiring all private and non-governmental hospitals operating within the province to provide the government-mandated minimum wage and benefits to healthcare workers. The Ministry of Health has made it compulsory for these institutions to implement these standards.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Ministry expressed concern over reports that nursing staff and other healthcare workers in registered hospitals were not receiving their entitled minimum pay and benefits. Citing the Labor Act, 2074, the Ministry clarified that employers are legally obligated to provide minimum wages, sick leave, gratuity, provident funds, and insurance coverage to their employees.

The directive also mandates full compliance with the agreement reached between the Ministry of Health and Population and stakeholders on 2082 Kartik 15. The Ministry has warned that any institution found depriving healthcare workers of their mandated compensation and benefits will face legal action.

The Ministry stated that it will conduct regular monitoring of hospitals and will be compelled to take necessary legal and administrative measures if the prescribed provisions are not implemented.
