Bagmati Chief Minister Baniya Expresses Confidence in Federal Government's Commitment to Provincial Rights

Makwanpur. Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya has stated that the current federal government is fully committed to federalism and that the constitutional rights due to the province will soon be secured. He noted that the provincial government will soon become empowered due to the positive outlook of the federal government and the Prime Minister.

Addressing the winter session of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, which began on Tuesday, Chief Minister Baniya expressed his expectation that the rights granted by the constitution, which the province has not yet been able to fully exercise, will now be obtained on a 'fast track'. 

Chief Minister Baniya recalled that the current Prime Minister, having served as a local level leader (Mayor) in the past, experienced administrative hurdles and a lack of authority, and therefore understands the plight of the provinces closely.

'The current federal government is committed to the stability of federalism and the inclusive system. Since this government, formed after various movements and fluctuations, prioritizes good governance and transparency, provincial rights will no longer be stalled at the center,' he said. 'We have heard about the difficulties and ironies the honorable Prime Minister faced while serving as Mayor. Therefore, we believe that understanding the essence of federalism and the staffing and administrative problems faced by all seven provinces, he will resolve them soon.'

Chief Minister Baniya urged the federal government to ensure a tenure of at least two years when appointing Chief Secretaries and Secretaries for the province and to coordinate with the provincial government. 

Stating that coordination, cooperation, and co-existence are the essence of the republic, he emphasized that we must be ready to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the federal government to strengthen federalism and fulfill the aspirations of the people. 

Asserting that the current government is determined to work in a corruption-free and people-oriented manner, Chief Minister Baniya stated that with the support of the federal government, the journey of provincial development and the attainment of rights will now gain momentum.
