Lumbini Provincial Assembly members raise concerns over governance and development

Butwal. During the sixth meeting of the seventh session of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly on Monday, members drew the government's attention to contemporary politics, good governance, development, and service delivery.

Speaking at the meeting, Provincial Assembly member Bhoj Prasad Shrestha stated that the government must move forward with clear priorities to implement the constitution, promote good governance, and fulfill public expectations. He questioned the government regarding delays in providing fertilizers, seeds, and relief packages for agriculture.

Provincial Assembly member Bir Bahadur Rana complained that although the foundation for development was laid after 2046 BS, work has not been carried out according to the spirit of federalism. He emphasized that governance based on self-respect is necessary to strengthen the province.

Provincial Assembly member Ambika Kafle expressed concern that violence against women has not been eradicated. Similarly, Chandra Kesh Gupta opined that strict legal provisions should be implemented due to the rise in rape cases.

Mina Kumari Shrestha stated that delays in the implementation of annual plans have led to a situation where the budget may 'freeze'. Likewise, members including Rajkumar Chaudhary, Tara Thapa, Bhuwaneshwar Chaudhary, and Bhagwati Adhikari drew the government's attention to various contemporary issues.

Responding to the questions raised in the meeting, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Bhumishwar Dhakal expressed confidence that most projects are in the implementation phase and will be completed soon.

Meanwhile, Minister for Forest and Environment Devkaran Prasad Kalwar presented the 'Bill to Amend the Provincial Forest Act, 2078' in the assembly.

It has been informed that the next meeting of the Provincial Assembly will be held on Tuesday, Chaitra 24, at 1:00 PM.
