Nepal Weather Update: Western Disturbance and Local Winds Bring Rain and Snow

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that Nepal is currently under the influence of a western low-pressure system and local winds. As a result, the entire country is experiencing generally cloudy conditions.

This afternoon, the mountainous and hilly regions of the country will remain generally cloudy, while the rest of the country will see partial cloud cover. Some areas in the hilly and mountainous regions are expected to experience moderate rain and snowfall, accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds. There is also a possibility of light rain and snowfall, along with lightning, in a few places in the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, and in one or two locations in the remaining Terai areas. Gusty winds are also expected in some parts of the Terai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Tonight, the mountainous regions of the country will remain generally cloudy. The hilly regions will experience partial cloud cover, while the weather in the Terai regions is expected to remain mainly clear.

The Department has stated that there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall, accompanied by lightning, in a few places in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces, as well as in one or two locations in the mountainous regions of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, and the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces. Gusty winds are also expected in some parts of the Terai regions of Madhesh and Koshi provinces.
