Federal Parliament to Convene Today: House of Representatives to Formally Announce Speaker Election

Kathmandu. Meetings of both houses of the Federal Parliament, the House of Representatives and the National Assembly, are scheduled for today. The House of Representatives will formally announce the election of Dol Prasad Aryal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as Speaker, while the National Assembly has an agenda to present various nominations and reports.

Aryal was elected unopposed as Speaker on Friday.

The House of Representatives meeting, starting at 11:00 AM at the new Parliament building in Singha Durbar, has a tentative agenda to formally present the motion 'that Dol Prasad Aryal be elected as Speaker' for a decision.

RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane is the proposer of Aryal's candidacy, with lawmakers Swarnim Wagle, Sobita Gautam, and Sunil Lamsal as seconders.

Similarly, the National Assembly meeting will be held at 12:15 PM. The agenda includes the nomination and reshuffling of members in thematic committees by the Chairperson. Additionally, members who will preside over the meeting in the absence of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson will also be nominated.

According to Federal Parliament Secretariat General Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey, the meeting is scheduled to have Balendra Shah present the annual report of the National Women Commission for the fiscal year 2081/82.
