Police launch crackdown on organized crime in Kathmandu, 17 arrested

Kathmandu. Police have launched an operation against organized crime. Last night, police arrested 17 individuals involved in criminal activities from various locations in Kathmandu.

A team deployed from the Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested 13 individuals. SSP Santosh Khadka of the Valley Crime Investigation Office told RatoPati that the suspects were apprehended from Thamel, Durbarmarg, and Samakhusi. Many of those arrested are affiliated with the 'Kavreli group'.

Among those arrested are Sanji Lama of the Kavreli group, Ashok Giri from Sindhupalchok, and Suresh Gurung 'Kimjong'. Suresh Gurung is a member of the gang leader Shyam Lama's group. Shyam Lama, a native of Sindhupalchok, is currently absconding.

An additional 4 individuals were arrested by a team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

According to SP Pawan Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, those arrested include Pravin Tamang 'Dimple', Birju Maharjan, Sujan Karki, and Saru Humagain. Police officials state that Pravin Tamang was active in criminal activities in the Boudha area while affiliated with the Shyam Lama group.

Birju Maharjan is a criminal active in the Kalanki and Bafal areas. An official from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, told RatoPati that Sujan Karki was active in the Kalanki area and Humagain in the Syuchatar area.
