Eight teams to compete in the 38th edition of the Birat Gold Cup

Biratnagar. Eight teams, including India's Al Jharkhand Birsa Munda Academy, will participate in the Birat Gold Cup starting from Chaitra 28.

Organizing committee member and spokesperson Dhan Kumar Lama stated that the tournament will run until Baishakh 5. In the fourth match of the tournament, Morang district league winners Samrat Sporting Club will face the Jharkhand team on Baishakh 1, the first day of the new year.

The winner will receive a trophy and 1.1 million rupees. The opening match of the Gold Cup will feature former champions Jhapa XI against the departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club. The tournament, primarily sponsored by Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar, will see the second match between another departmental team, APF FC, and the Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division champions and defending runners-up, Church Boys United.

Spokesperson Lama informed that in the third match, Nepal Police Club will face the 2080 BS winners, Machhindra Football Club, in the absence of defending champions Three Star Club. Preparations for the day-night matches at Sahid Maidan are currently underway. The Koshi Province Government, Biratnagar Metropolitan City, and the National Sports Council are promoting the Gold Cup.

The Mahendra Gold Cup, which began in 2018 BS, was transformed into the Birat Gold Cup after 2067 and 2068 BS. The Trust has announced that starting this year, it will count the tournament as the 38th edition, aiming to restore its historical legacy.
