Department of Drug Administration Mandates Strict Compliance with Pharmacy Practice Standards

Kathmandu. The Department of Drug Administration has urged all stakeholders to strictly adhere to 'Good Pharmacy Practice' and 'Good Storage and Distribution Practice' to ensure the systematic, safe, and quality distribution and storage of medicines.

In a notice issued on Friday, the department informed that the Drug Distribution Code, 2080 is currently in effect. It stated that new wholesale and retail outlets must complete all necessary preparations according to the specified standards before applying for certification.

The department clarified that the registration process for new pharmacies and wholesale shops will only proceed after they fulfill all criteria mentioned in the code. Furthermore, it noted that existing establishments must gradually comply with all the standards.

According to the department, failure to comply with the code will result in action under the Drug Act, 2035 and other prevailing laws.
