CPN Leader Barshaman Pun Warns Against Compromising Democratic Achievements in Constitution Amendment

Kathmandu. CPN lawmaker Barshaman Pun has clarified that there can be no compromise on hard-won achievements such as democracy, republicanism, and inclusivity in the name of constitutional amendment. Addressing Thursday's House of Representatives meeting, he stated that his party remains steadfast on the country's core political framework and issues of social justice.

He mentioned that the CPN is always ready to support the government in nation-building and national sovereignty. Acknowledging the reality that communist parties failed to properly utilize the massive public mandates received in the past, MP Pun advised the newly elected Rastriya Swatantra Party to learn from past mistakes.

He recalled that the massive public support received by the then CPN (Maoist Center) in 2064 BS and the near two-thirds majority government formed after the 2074 BS elections failed to meet public expectations despite having the opportunity. 'We did not know how to utilize the public mandate and could not do so; may the new power learn from our weaknesses and move the country and party forward,' he said in the House.

Pun expressed his party's commitment to fully support positive steps taken by the government regarding social justice and societal transformation. However, he warned that any attempt to weaken fundamental pillars like republicanism and inclusivity during the ongoing debate on constitutional amendment will not be accepted.

Urging the government to work responsibly, he clarified that the CPN will play the role of a constructive opposition on issues of national interest and public livelihood. He emphasized that all parties must work together to provide a way forward for the country in the new political situation.
