Two arrested in Kathmandu for Rs 900,000 fraud under pretext of securing bail

Kathmandu. The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has arrested two individuals on charges of swindling Rs 900,000 by promising to secure the release of detainees on bail. The arrested individuals have been identified as 45-year-old Haribahadur Thapamagar, a resident of Halesi Mahadev Marg in Budhanilkantha Municipality-Mandikhatar, and 37-year-old Mithu Magar, also known as Anita Thapamagar, from the same area, according to District Police Range spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai.

He stated, “Haribahadur Thapamagar allegedly promised to secure the release of three defendants currently held in Sundhara Prison for criminal activities during the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, claiming he could influence judges at the Supreme Court. He coerced the victims into depositing Rs 900,000 into the account of his wife, Mithu Magar (Anita Thapamagar), under the guise of bail money and legal fees.”

Spokesperson Bhattarai added that further investigation into both individuals is currently underway.
