Factional Meeting of Nepali Congress Central Committee Convened Amidst Internal Tensions

Kathmandu. The Central Committee meeting of the outgoing Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba faction and Dr. Shekhar Koirala faction is scheduled to take place today. The Central Committee meeting, stemming from the 14th General Convention, has been called at the Smart Hotel in Maharajgunj.

‘The Central Committee meeting that arose from the 14th General Convention has been called,’ said Laxmi Khatiwada, a member of the outgoing Central Working Committee. Members of the Central Committee stated that Central Chief Secretary of the Congress Central Office, Krishna Prasad Paudel, has been informing leaders via telephone to attend the meeting.

Laxmi informed that contemporary politics and the writ filed by them in the Supreme Court will be discussed in the meeting. The hearing date for the writ filed in the Supreme Court has been set for Chaitra 22.

The Deuba-Shekhar faction, which filed a writ in the Supreme Court against the new leadership elected by the Special General Convention held last Poush after the Election Commission granted them legitimacy, has started parallel activities. After former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was arrested, Khadka initiated parallel activities by issuing a statement in his capacity as Acting President.
