Nepali Congress Leader Urges Newly Elected MPs to Support Constitution Amendment

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress's outgoing acting president, Purna Bahadur Khadka, has urged the newly elected members of parliament from the party to stand in favor of the constitution amendment. Speaking at a program organized to honor and congratulate the newly elected MPs at the Smart Hotel in Dhumbara on Monday, Khadka also urged them not to compromise on the fundamental issues of the constitution.

‘Engage in the debate on constitution amendment without compromising on the fundamental issues of the constitution,’ Khadka said, ‘Inside the parliament, you will have us alongside you.’

He urged them to make their role effective and exemplary even though the party's numbers in the House of Representatives are weak following the elections.

‘The role of all honorable members elected from the Nepali Congress will be effective and exemplary,’ Khadka said, ‘Although we are fewer in number, you are representing the parliament carrying the entire heritage of Nepali democratic history.’

He urged the MPs to present themselves strongly regarding lawmaking, the rights and entitlements of the Nepali people, the context of the federal democratic republic built through years of struggle, and the rights of the people.

Khadka stated that leaders with parliamentary experience who are outside the parliament will always stand with the MPs.
