Supreme Court Hearing Continues on Habeas Corpus Petition Filed for Former PM KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu. The hearing on the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is ongoing in the bench of Supreme Court Justice Meghraj Pokharel.

Arguing the habeas corpus writ, former Attorney General and senior advocate Ramesh Badal asserted that Oli should be released on personal guarantee. He claimed that according to Rule 35 'A' of the Habeas Corpus Regulation, he should be released with the instruction to cooperate with the investigation and that the opposition should be asked for a written response within 24 hours.

Radhika Shakya filed the petition on Sunday on behalf of Oli, demanding his immediate release, alleging that he was illegally detained for investigation regarding the incidents of the 'Jeejee' movement on Bhadra 23 and 24.

The Investigation Commission had recommended filing a case against them, holding them responsible for the crackdown during the 'Jeejee' movement on Bhadra 23 and 24. Based on the report of the Investigation Commission, the current government arrested the then Prime Minister Oli on Saturday.
