Heightened Alert Issued in Kavre and Sindhupalchok to Prevent Bird Flu Risk

High alert is set to be implemented in Kavre and Sindhupalchok to prevent the risk of Bird Flu infection. Stakeholders, after discussions, suggested increasing testing and surveillance to the administration, stating that the possibility of Bird Flu entering the two districts remains low.

The District Veterinary Office, Dhulikhel, has also decided to adopt high vigilance in Kavre and Sindhupalchok to prevent the entry of Bird Flu infection. Security measures are being tightened in view of the potential risk in these districts following the detection of Bird Flu infection in poultry in some parts of the country.

Similarly, the office has decided to tighten surveillance at the border crossings in the two districts and conduct regular inspections of poultry and other bird farms. Checks will be strictly enforced, especially at Mangaltar, the main entry point into Kavrepalanchok from the Terai region.

Furthermore, surveillance will be increased at the eastern entry point of the capital, Sanga, and Nala, as well as at the entry points from the Kathmandu Valley into Kavrepalanchok and Sindhupalchok. Along with this, it has also been decided to conduct awareness and promotional programs about the risk and effects of Bird Flu disease.

Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari stated that testing will be strictly enforced by adding technical manpower at the Mangaltar checkpoint. According to him, arrangements will be made for immediate testing of samples of poultry coming from the eastern region. The Head of the Veterinary Office, Bajrakishore Thakur, stated that the office is coordinating with other agencies and making necessary preparations to prevent the entry of Bird Flu disease.
