Kathmandu Chief District Officer Vows Vigilance Amid Political Tensions Following Arrests

Kathmandu. Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu, Ishwar Paudel, has stated that the local administration is fully alert to prevent any untoward situation that might arise due to the recent political developments. While receiving a memorandum on Sunday protesting the arrest of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, he made it clear that the administration would strictly act to control activities spreading violence and unrest.

He stated that the administration will not interfere in political matters but will firmly carry out the administrative and professional responsibilities assigned by the government. Mentioning that the administration is closely studying various activities and clashes that occurred on Saturday, CDO Paudel warned that anyone involved in a-political and illegal activities would be brought under the legal framework.

He urged all parties to exercise restraint, cautioning that misleading information could spread through media and social networks in this age of AI. He also informed that security personnel have been instructed to be restrained while performing their duties, and the administration is continuously updated on the ground situation.

The protest letter submitted by the team that reached the District Administration Office, as per the decision of the UML Secretariat meeting, demanded the immediate correction of steps contrary to the constitution, human rights, and the rule of law. UML also drew the government's attention to ensuring respectful treatment for Chairman Oli and other arrested leaders.

In response, CDO Paudel stated that maintaining peace and security is the administration's top priority and that everyone's cooperation is necessary to normalize the situation.
