Former PM KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress Leader Ramesh Lekhak to be Presented in Kathmandu District Court

Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak are being presented before the Kathmandu District Court today (Sunday).

Both individuals were arrested after being served with an urgent summons. According to the law, individuals arrested after being served an urgent summons must be presented before the court within 24 hours. The investigation commission looking into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 last year had indicted Oli and Lekhak, recommending prison sentences ranging from three to ten years.

Former Prime Minister Oli and former Home Minister Lekhak were arrested on charges of manslaughter due to negligence during the Madhes movement on Bhadra 23 last year. The report from the commission led by former Justice Gauribahadur Karki held Oli and Lekhak primarily responsible for the movement that resulted in the deaths of 76 people.
