CPN-UML Vows Legal Battle Following Arrest of Former PM KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu. The CPN-UML has announced it will fight a legal battle, alleging that former Prime Minister and Chairman KP Sharma Oli was arrested based on political vendetta. UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet stated that Chairman Oli was arrested in a politically vindictive manner and they would pursue legal action.

‘There is no legal basis. The arrest was done in a vindictive manner; we will fight the legal and other battles against this,’ Secretary Basnet told Ratopati. ‘We will also hold further discussions within the party.’

The police arrested former Prime Minister Oli from Gundu, Bhaktapur, on Saturday based on the recommendations of the Janji Movement Investigation Commission report.

Meanwhile, after the police arrived at Oli's residence with an arrest warrant on Saturday morning, Oli held discussions with senior legal experts. Following consultation with former Attorney General Ramesh Badal and senior advocate Tikaram Bhattarai, Oli stated that he was being arrested without any legal grounds.

Advocate Bhattarai, who spoke with Oli, quoted Oli as saying, ‘This is a politically vindictive incident. I will fight the legal battle; you all prepare.’

Senior Advocate Bhattarai informed that they are preparing to file a case in the Supreme Court on Sunday itself.
