Local Ward Chairman Allegedly Assaults Secretary in Siraha Over Document Discrepancy

Siraha. The Ward Chairman of Ward No. 3 of Nagaraha Rural Municipality in Siraha allegedly beat up his own secretary. Ward Chairman Rustam Ansari physically assaulted Ward Secretary Ramdev Mandal in his office on Thursday.

Secretary Mandal informed that he was assaulted after he refused to comply with the chairman's pressure to correct different dates of birth on the recommendation and birth registration certificate of a service recipient, who is a Nepali daughter-in-law of Indian origin.

He said, 'A service recipient, who is an Indian daughter-in-law, had come to register her marriage. Since there was a difference in the date of birth on her birth registration and recommendation, I told her to get it corrected from the source. The Ward Chairman pressured me to correct it yourself. When I said it cannot be corrected by me and must be corrected from the source, a chair was thrown at me and I was also physically attacked.' The chairman suddenly struck me with a chair and also threw punches. I couldn't even speak properly.'

He informed that he had come to inform the Chief Administrative Officer of the Rural Municipality about the incident. He said, 'I am currently at the Rural Municipality office and have informed the chief about the incident. I will think about what to do next based on the response I receive.'

When asked about this matter, Rural Municipality Chief Administrative Officer Udit Kumar Karna stated that efforts are underway to understand the incident. Meanwhile, Rural Municipality Chairman Rampramod Yadav said he had not yet been able to understand the details of the incident.

Ward Chairman Ansari refused to comment, stating that he was currently in a meeting at the Rural Municipality.
