At Least 9 Migrants Dead, 45 Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Djibouti Coast, IOM Reports

Kathmandu. At least nine migrants have died and 45 others are missing after a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Thursday.

The IOM stated via the social media platform X that the vessel, carrying 320 migrant passengers, sank off the coast of Djibouti on the night of March 24. The United Nations migration agency said it is working with local authorities on search and rescue efforts to assist the survivors and the missing.

This latest tragic incident is reported to be one of several fatal accidents documented on the Red Sea coast of Djibouti. Many migrants undertake the perilous sea journey hoping to reach the Middle East via conflict-ridden Yemen.
