Former PM Bhattarai Welcomes Publication of Karki Commission Report on Past Events

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has termed the public release of the Gauri Bahadur Karki Commission report, formed to investigate the events of Bhadra 23 and 24, as a positive step. He stated that the decision by the government led by Sushila Karki to publicize the 907-page report, even at the last moment, is positive.

Reacting through social media, Dr. Bhattarai mentioned that the report has exposed the serious shortcomings of that time. He noted that studying the report revealed serious mistakes by those in the then-government on Bhadra 23, and that the TOB group played a deliberate role in inciting the protests.

Likewise, Dr. Bhattarai stated that the report clearly showed that all organs of the state failed during the events of Bhadra 24.

Informing that the commission has made detailed recommendations for punishing the guilty, rewarding good work, and for governance reform, Dr. Bhattarai said that the responsibility now rests on the shoulders of the incoming RSP government.

'It is in the hands of the upcoming RSP government whether to take this report seriously for the benefit of the country and the people, implement it, and create a new history, or to repeat the same tragic history,' he said.
