Newly Elected House of Representatives Members to Take Oath of Office Today

Kathmandu. The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members of the House of Representatives is scheduled for 2:00 PM today. The Federal Parliament Secretariat has stated that all preparations for the oath ceremony have been completed.

Ekram Giri, spokesperson for the Federal Parliament Secretariat, informed that the program for administering the oath of office and secrecy to the eldest member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narsingh KC, has been finalized. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to the eldest member KC on Wednesday.

The oath-taking ceremony for the members of the House of Representatives will take place at the newly constructed multipurpose hall in Singha Durbar. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, 47 members are preparing to take the oath in languages other than Nepali. Among them, 17 are preparing to take the oath in the Maithili language.

The provision for taking the oath of office and secrecy is stipulated under Article 99 and Article 91 sub-article 5 of the Constitution of Nepal, and Section 75 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has requested the members to be present two hours before the scheduled time, along with the certificate of election received from the Election Commission, a copy of their Nepali citizenship certificate, and two copies of a recent passport-sized photograph. The Secretariat had previously requested attendance in formal or culturally significant attire.

Arrangements, including necessary seating, rostrum, Speaker's seat, and seating for the Secretary General and Secretaries, have been made in the multipurpose hall.

In the election for the House of Representatives held on Falgun 21, the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured 182 seats, Nepali Congress secured 38, CPN (UML) secured 25, the Communist Party of Nepal secured 17, the Shram Sanskriti Party secured seven, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party secured five seats.
