Kolkata Knight Riders Retire Andre Russell's Iconic No. 12 Jersey

Kolkata. The influential team of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has announced the retirement of the 'Number 12' jersey, which was used by their former all-rounder Andre Russell, in his honor. No player from KKR will wear this jersey number henceforth, a gesture made to recognize Russell's unparalleled contribution to the team.

Russell remained a key pillar for KKR throughout his long tenure from 2014 to 2025. Except for the 2017 season, he represented Kolkata every year. Out of his total 140 IPL career matches, he played 133 for KKR.

Russell, who retired as a player from the IPL last November, has now returned in a new role as the Power Coach for the same team. Speaking about his coaching role, Russell stated that there has been no change in his mindset and that it is a matter of pride to share his experience with players he has played alongside and against.

He played a crucial role in helping KKR win the title in 2014 and 2024. Especially in the 2024 season, he was instrumental in making the team champions by scoring 222 runs and taking 19 wickets in 15 matches.

Besides the IPL, Russell also wore the KKR jersey in the Champions League T20, reaching the final. He is equally active in KKR's sister teams, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Trinbago Knight Riders.
