Sri Lanka Implements New Work Schedule for Government Employees Amid Fuel Shortage

Kathmandu. Sri Lanka has decided to change the working hours schedule for government employees to manage the fuel shortage observed in the country.

According to a notice issued on Tuesday, a weekly holiday every Wednesday will be implemented for government employees starting from March 18.

Information released by Commissioner of Essential Services, Prabath Chandrakeerthi, stated that all government schools, universities, and courts will also remain closed on Wednesdays. However, this decision will not apply to essential services such as health services, ports, water supply, and customs.

It was also mentioned that heads of government agencies will have the authority to call employees to work within the remaining four working days based on work requirements.

In light of the fuel crisis, the government has also postponed all government programs until further notice. Furthermore, the government has requested private sector organizations to adopt similar arrangements where possible.
