Journalist Kalpana Ghimire Honored on Consumer Rights Day for Advocacy Work

Kathmandu. Journalist Kalpana Ghimire was honored on the occasion of Consumer Day. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection honored her for her contribution through media in the protection, promotion, and awareness of consumer rights. Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Anil Kumar Sinha handed over the letter of appreciation during the 42nd Consumer Day ceremony.

Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Anil Kumar Sinha, Ministry Secretary Madhusudan Burlakoti, Department Director General Roshan Gyawali, and consumer activists participated in the program. Ghimire has been writing for Ratopati on industry, commerce, consumer affairs, and infrastructure sectors.

Other consumer activists and media persons writing in the field of consumer rights who have worked in the consumer sector were also honored at the program.

Every March 15 is observed as World Consumer Rights Day in memory of the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection, including eight consumer rights, on March 15, 1985.

This year's international theme for the day is set as 'Safe Products, Trusted Consumers'. In Nepal, this year's World Consumer Rights Day is being celebrated with the theme 'Safe Products, Prudent Consumers, and Responsible Administration'.
