High-Level US-Russia Talks Held Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict

As the conflict in the Middle East escalates, high-level talks have commenced between Russia and the United States. Kirill Dmitriev, envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, described his meeting with American negotiators as 'fruitful.' This marks the first direct dialogue between Moscow and Washington since the war in Iran began.

The discussions, held in Florida, reportedly included US envoy for global affairs Steve Biegun, Jared Kushner, advisor to US President Donald Trump, and White House senior advisor Josh Greenbaum. Dmitriev thanked them via the social media platform X, noting the meeting was positive.

He posted, 'Thank you for the meeting with Steve, Jared, and Josh, the discussion was very fruitful.' Previously, Biegun had also stated that the teams discussed various issues and agreed to maintain contact in the coming days.

US President Trump had a telephone conversation with Russian President Putin this week. Following that, Trump indicated that Putin seemed willing to be 'cooperative' on issues related to the Middle East conflict.

The Florida meeting took place just days after the US decided to lift some sanctions previously imposed on Russian oil following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This decision comes at a time when the energy market is volatile due to the conflict in the Middle East.

After the meeting, Dmitriev commented that Washington is beginning to understand the importance of Russian oil more clearly. According to him, both sides also discussed the potential for improving bilateral relations and projects that could resolve the crisis in the global energy market.

Writing on Telegram, he noted that many countries are now beginning to understand the significant role of Russian oil and gas in the stability of the world economy. He also stated that the understanding is gradually growing that the sanctions imposed against Russia have not been effective and are having a negative impact.
