Nepal's Stock Market Capitalization Reaches NPR 4.48 Trillion in First Seven Months of Fiscal Year

Kathmandu. The capitalization of the securities market reached NPR 4.48 trillion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.

According to data published by Nepal Rastra Bank, the stock market capitalization stood at NPR 4.48 trillion 79 crore as of the end of Magh 082. In comparison, the market capitalization was NPR 4458 billion 52 crore as of the end of Magh 2081.

During that period, the market capitalization was 78.09 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, whereas in Magh 2082, it stood at 73.43 percent. According to the central bank, the NEPSE index, which was 2685.73 at the end of Magh 081, settled at 2671.07 at the end of Magh 082, while the number of listed companies in the Nepal Stock Exchange Limited remains 284.

Among the listed companies, 132 are banks and financial institutions and insurance companies. There are 26 hydropower companies, manufacturing and processing industries, 8 hotels, 7 investment companies, 4 trading firms, and 10 companies from other groups. In Magh 2081, the number of listed companies was 268.

Among the listed companies, the share of banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies in the stock market capitalization is 51.7 percent. Similarly, the share of hydropower companies is 16.0 percent, investment companies 7.4 percent, manufacturing and processing industries 7.0 percent, trading firms 4.7 percent, hotels 3.2 percent, and other groups of companies account for 10.1 percent.

According to the central bank's data, as of the end of Magh 082 in the Nepal Stock Exchange Limited, the paid-up value of 9 billion 23 crore shares listed is NPR 908 billion 83 crore. In the first seven months of the fiscal year 2082/83, additional securities worth a total of NPR 50 billion 94 crore were listed, including NPR 21 billion 96 crore worth of ordinary shares, NPR 9 billion 64 crore worth of rights shares, NPR 7 billion 50 crore worth of mutual funds, NPR 7 billion 49 crore worth of bonus shares, NPR 3 billion 40 crore worth of debentures, NPR 92 crore 50 lakh worth of FPOs, and NPR 2 crore 29 lakh worth of others.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, in the first seven months of the fiscal year 2082/83, a total of NPR 50 billion 94 crore worth of additional securities were listed, including NPR 21 billion 96 crore worth of ordinary shares, NPR 9 billion 64 crore worth of rights shares, NPR 7 billion 50 crore worth of mutual funds, NPR 7 billion 49 crore worth of bonus shares, NPR 3 billion 40 crore worth of debentures, NPR 92 crore 50 lakh worth of FPOs, and NPR 2 crore 29 lakh worth of others.

Furthermore, during the review period, the Securities Board of Nepal granted permission for the public issuance of securities worth a total of NPR 24 billion 42 crore, comprising NPR 13 billion 13 crore worth of mutual funds, NPR 6 billion 64 crore worth of ordinary shares, NPR 4 billion 41 crore worth of rights shares, NPR 20 crore of debentures, and NPR 5 crore of FPOs.
