Millet Production Increases in Udayapur Compared to Last Year

Gaighat. Millet production has increased this year in Udayapur compared to last year. According to the District Agriculture Knowledge Center Udayapur, a total of five thousand 455 metric tons of millet was produced in the district this year. Last year, four thousand 680 metric tons of millet was produced.

Information Officer of the Agriculture Knowledge Center Udayapur, Anu Bisi, informed that the increase in millet production this year compared to last year is due to good rainfall in the hilly areas of the district.

Millet cultivation is being carried out in the hilly areas of the district, including Tapli, Udayapur Gadhi, Rautamai, and Limchhungbung Rural Municipalities, as well as the hilly areas of Triyuga Municipality, Belka, Chaudandi Gadhi, and the hilly areas of Katari Municipality.

According to Dambar Bahadur Rai of Sukhaura, Triyuga Municipality-16, the production was good because much of the land in the village is marginal land and they are compelled to cultivate millet. He stated that even though the youth are migrating abroad, the elderly in the village are continuing millet cultivation.

Rautamai Rural Municipality Chairman Birendra Magar stated that millet production increased this time due to good rainfall in the hilly areas. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center, millet cultivation is currently being carried out in two thousand 765 hectares of land in Udayapur.
