Election decision after consensus among parties-Minister Basnet

Kathmandu - Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet said conclusion can be drawn on holding provincial and parliamentary elections on same day only after forging consensus among the political parties. 

At a face-to-face organized here today by Reporters' Club Nepal, he clarified that the conclusion would be drawn out towards holding elections in one or two rounds after holding wider discussion among the political parties. 

The government is yet to decide officially as consultation with the Election Commission is underway, he said. 

Informing that the government is making all efforts to onboard Rastriya Janata Party Nepal the local level elections taking place in Province-2 on coming September 18, he expressed the government's commitment to address the demands of RJPN. 

There is the need to forge consensus with the main opposition party CPN-UML on the agenda of constitution amendment, Minister said, adding that constitution amendment was not possible by keeping UML outside the process. 

Pledging that the government was firm to the physical and professional safety of working journalists, he also committed to provide with facilities to the journalists.
