Commission Submits Report on Madhesi Youth Shootings to Prime Minister Karki

Kathmandu. The investigation commission formed to probe the incidents involving Madhesi youth on Sunday submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

After submitting the report, the commission's chairman, Gauribahadur Karki, stated that recommendations have been made for action against those who fired upon and ordered the firing on Madhesi youths in areas including Baneshwor, Kathmandu, on Bhadra 23. He said, 'Everyone involved in firing, ordering the firing, and failing to stop it is included in the recommendation for action.'

Twenty-one people lost their lives in Baneshwor due to police firing during the Madhesi demonstration on Bhadra 23. Karki stated, 'We have recommended action against those who made the youths martyrs.'

Karki mentioned that the delay in submitting the report was due to the time taken to investigate the incidents that occurred on Bhadra 23 and 24, adding, 'The report was not submitted while waiting for election results.'

He stated that he felt 'satisfied' because he worked for the country. Mentioning that he advised the Prime Minister and cabinet members that the report should be made public and implemented, Karki said, 'I have warned that if the report is not implemented, another protest could occur.'
