CPN-UML Makwanpur Chairman Shridhar Pokharel Resigns Citing Need for Deep Self-Reflection Post-Election

Makwanpur. CPN-UML Makwanpur Chairman Shridhar Pokharel has announced his resignation from the post. Citing the need for serious self-reflection within the party following the recent election results, he announced his resignation via social media on Sunday.

Pokharel stated that the real cause behind the results the party is currently facing in its long 45-year political journey, starting from CPN-ML to UML, must be identified. He mentioned that reacting in vague terms without identifying the root of the problem, along with tendencies of envy and arrogance, cannot lead the party in the right direction.

Pokharel urged party leadership to also engage in self-reflection, stating that if necessary, leaders should take responsibility and resign to pave the way for party reorganization.

'It is impossible to solve the problem merely by expressing vague reactions without identifying the real cause of this result, or through tendencies of envy and arrogance. Therefore, the demand of the hour is for everyone from the bottom to the top to self-reflect and accept their respective responsibilities,' he wrote. 'To move the party in the right direction, everyone from the party chairman to the general secretary must accept their responsibilities and self-reflect, and if necessary, leadership must take responsibility and resign to clear the path for party reorganization. If the party is to remain alive and strong in the coming days, this reality must be acknowledged and responsibility must be taken. In this context, I announce my resignation from my chairmanship, effective from today.'

He expressed the view that leadership opportunities should be given to the coming younger generation and stated that he would provide his full support and cooperation to them.
