Nepali Congress's Bharat Bahadur Khadka Elected to House of Representatives from Doti

Dhangadhi. Bharat Bahadur Khadka of the Nepali Congress has been elected as the Member of the House of Representatives from Doti. Khadka, who has been active in Doti politics and served as a people's representative for a long time, succeeded in reaching parliament in this election by surpassing his competing candidates.

Khadka, a permanent resident of Phulaut, Eastern Chowki Rural Municipality-1, Doti, was born in 2014 BS in the former Khirsain Village Development Committee (VDC). He started his political journey from his student life. He formally began his politics around 2032 BS by becoming the unit vice-chairman of the Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students' Union (NSU) while studying at Doti Multipurpose Campus, Silgadhi.

During the 2036 BS referendum, he campaigned in favor of multi-party democracy. At that time, he was active in the campaign alongside the group of former minister Shivraj Pant. While active in student politics, he also held the responsibility of Vice-Chairman of the NSU Doti Campus Unit Committee. He completed his bachelor's degree in 2039 BS.

Khadka's journey as an official people's representative also began in 2039 BS. In the Village Panchayat election held that year, he was elected as the Pradhanpanch (chief) of the former Khirsain Village Panchayat at the age of 23. Subsequently, remaining continuously active in district politics, he became the Chairman of the Doti District Panchayat in 2044 BS.

He continued his political career within the Nepali Congress even after the establishment of multi-party democracy. In the 2049 BS local body election, he was elected as the Vice-Chairman of the District Development Committee (DDC). Following that, he also got the opportunity to lead district development by becoming the DDC Chairman in 2054 BS.

He remained active in the political processes following the establishment of the Republic. In the second Constituent Assembly election of 2070 BS, Khadka became a member of the Constituent Assembly under the proportional representation system. Later, in the 2074 BS election, he was elected as a Provincial Assembly member from Doti Provincial Assembly Constituency 1 (1).

In this House of Representatives election, Khadka achieved victory by securing 14,897 votes. His closest competitor, Deepak Bahadur Dhami of CPN-UML, received 14,110 votes. Khadka defeated Dhami by a margin of 787 votes.

After winning the election, Khadka stated that he would now demonstrate his experience and capability in the parliament. "I have raised many issues in parliament in the past; now I will be even more assertive," he said. "I belong to you. Your happiness and sorrow, hopes, expectations, and dreams are now my responsibility. I pledge to continuously work for the development, prosperity, and service of the people in our area with honesty, integrity, and dedication."
