CPN-UML's Ganesh Singh Thagunna Wins Darchula House of Representatives Seat

Dhangadhi. CPN-UML candidate Ganesh Singh Thagunna has won the House of Representatives seat from Darchula. Thagunna, who was defeated in the previous election, has managed to secure his place in parliament this time.

In the initial phase of vote counting, Thagunna was trailing behind the Nepali Congress candidate. The preliminary results indicated that the competition would be very tough. In the later stages, he increased his vote margin and ultimately succeeded in achieving victory. According to the election results, Thagunna secured 18,891 votes. His closest competitor, Dharmananda Joshi, received only 15,836 votes.

Reacting after his victory, Thagunna pledged to respect the mandate given by the people and to strongly voice Darchula's concerns in parliament. He stated that he would prioritize development in Darchula, border security, roads, education, and health.

Ganesh Singh Thagunna is considered a leader who emerged from CPN-UML's grassroots politics. He began his political journey in 2045 BS through ANISU (All Nepal National Free Students Union). Thagunna, who became active in student politics, became a member of the UML District Organization Committee in 2047 BS. Subsequently, from 2050 BS onwards, he served as the Secretary of the UML District Committee for a long time.

Having gathered experience from local to central levels, Thagunna became the Chairman of the Darchula District Development Committee (DDC) back in 2054 BS. Thereafter, he expanded his political influence while holding various responsibilities within the party. Thagunna, who is also a Politburo member of the CPN-UML, is recognized as an influential leader within the party organization.

Thagunna had won consecutive victories in the House of Representatives elections of 2070 BS and 2074 BS. By winning those elections, he represented Darchula in parliament. In 2078 BS, he also served as the Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration. The 2079 BS House of Representatives election, however, put a break on his winning streak. He was defeated in that election by Nepali Congress candidate Dilendra Prasad Badu. At that time, his loss was considered unexpected by many. Nevertheless, even after suffering a defeat in the election, Thagunna's influence within the district party structure did not weaken. He maintained his activity within the organization and continued preparations for the upcoming elections. The party had recommended him as the sole candidate here.

Darchula is considered a geopolitically sensitive district. Issues such as development, road expansion, and border security are crucial in this region bordering India and China. Thagunna has consistently committed to working with these issues as priorities.

In this election, he entered the field with the goal of avenging his previous defeat. Although he trailed in the initial counting, he ultimately secured the win by increasing his vote margin. With this, it is analyzed that CPN-UML has reasserted its political grip in Darchula.

Thagunna stated that with his victory, the voters of Darchula expect development, stability, and effective representation. 'This victory has made me more responsible, and I am ready for it,' he said. With Thagunna's win, CPN-UML has won two seats in Sudurpashchim Province. Earlier, Ain Mahar won in Bajhang.
