Six Candidates from Rastriya Swatantra Party Forfeit Deposits in National Elections

Six candidates from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which saw a nationwide surge, have forfeited their election deposits. This number of constituencies is among the 20 where RSP has faced defeat based on the vote results announced so far.

There is a provision that a candidate's deposit (security money) will be forfeited if they fail to secure 10 percent of the total valid votes. The deposits in Achham-1, Kalikot, Jumla, Jajarkot, Rukum East, and Myagdi have not been saved among the constituencies where results have been made public.

In Achham-1, Bharat Kumar Swar secured 10,759 votes, while RSP's Omprakash Rawal received 1,739 votes. Nearly 30,000 votes were valid here. In Jajarkot, Khadga Bahadur Buda secured 20,142 votes, while RSP's Raghav Karki received 2,471 votes. Nearly 57,000 votes were valid here.

Similarly, in Kalikot, Nepal Communist Party's Mahendra Bahadur Shahi secured 11,338 votes, while RSP's Prakash Neupane received 2,937 votes. Nearly 33,000 votes were valid here. In Jumla, RPP's Gyan Bahadur Shahi secured 14,816 votes, while RSP's Binita Kathayat received only 421 votes. Nearly 38,000 votes were valid here.

In Rukum East, CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' secured 10,240 votes, while RSP's Lakhan Kumar Thapa received only 819 votes. Nearly 17,000 votes were valid here.

The RSP candidate's deposit was also forfeited in Myagdi. Although Yubaraj Roka was the RSP candidate in that constituency, the party decided to support former Education Minister Mahabir Pun after he filed his candidacy. However, since the deadline for withdrawal had passed, his candidacy technically remained valid.

In this constituency, Roka received 1,530 votes. The elected candidate, Pun, secured 22,850 votes. A total of nearly 43,000 votes were valid in this constituency.
