Nepali Congress Candidate Dev Prasad Timalsina Defeated in Rautahat-4 Election Bid

Kathmandu. Dev Prasad Timalsina, who was contesting the election for his third term in parliament, has been defeated. Timalsina, the candidate for the House of Representatives from the Nepali Congress in Rautahat-4, was defeated in his third electoral contest.

According to the Office of the Election Officer, Timalsina trailed behind Ganesh Paudel, the candidate from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), by a margin of 21,011 votes. Paudel secured 36,876 votes, while Timalsina received 15,865 votes.

This constituency was traditionally considered a stronghold for the Nepali Congress. Even in the 2074 parliamentary elections, when the then Leftist alliance (UML and Maoist) won only 23 seats across the country, Congress won this seat. At that time, Timalsina achieved victory by securing 28,228 votes, while UML's Banshidhar Mishra received 23,006 votes.

In the 2079 elections, Timalsina increased his margin of victory. He received 34,161 votes, while UML candidate Uddhav Prasad Regmi received 26,559 votes.

This time, however, he could not withstand the wave of the RSP. He was defeated by a huge margin of votes. He had been actively involved in issues concerning the expansion of the Congress organization, the protection of democratic values, and the development of the Madhesh region. He is known as a person who raises issues related to economic development, trade, infrastructure, and public livelihood in parliament.
