CPN-UML's Ain Mahar Elected to House of Representatives from Bajhang by Wide Margin

Dhangadhi. Ain Mahar of CPN-UML has been elected as the member of the House of Representatives from Bajhang. Mahar, who was defeated by a narrow margin in the previous election, has won by a wide margin this time.

Mahar was elected securing 18,543 votes, while his closest competitor Prakash Snehi Rasaili of the Nepali Congress received 16,304 votes. Mahar defeated Rasaili by a margin of 2,239 votes.

Similarly, Min Bahadur Kunwar, the candidate from the Communist Party of Nepal who stood in third place, received 9,757 votes, while Shailesh Bahadur Singh of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, in fourth place, secured 9,363 votes.

In the 2079 House of Representatives election, Mahar came close to victory but fell short. At that time, he was defeated by Bhanubhakta Joshi of CPN (Unified Socialist) by a slim margin of 998 votes.

Joshi secured 28,413 votes while Mahar was stopped at 27,412 votes. This time, however, Mahar has avenged that defeat with a comprehensive victory.

Mahar, born in Jayaprithvi Municipality-7 (former Suweda VDC) of Bajhang, is a leader who emerged from student politics. Attracted to CPN-UML politics after the Dashdhunga incident in 2050 BS, he rose from the campus committee to become the central chairman of ANISU (Free Students Union).

Mahar, who became a central member of CPN-UML in 2078 BS, is also considered academically brilliant. He holds a Master's degree in Sociology, Rural Development, and Political Science from Tri-Chandra College and is currently pursuing MPhil/PhD. His wife is an Associate Professor at Tribhuvan University.

After winning the election, Mahar unveiled his future plans under the slogan 'Happy Bajhangi, Prosperous Bajhang'. He stated that poverty in Bajhang is his main competitor.

Mahar committed to serving the public without being tempted by any financial inducements or commissions, as he comes from a financially well-off family.
