Constitutional Expert Hails Timely House Election as Collective Success, Warns Against Deification of Leaders

Kathmandu. Constitutional expert Bhimार्जुन Acharya has characterized the recently concluded House of Representatives election as a significant achievement, stating that its success is the result of the collective effort of all parties, not just one side. He concluded that regardless of who wins the election results or which party forms the next government, the fact that voting was completed on schedule is a positive aspect for the country.

Pointing out the risk that the country could have fallen into a dire situation had the election not taken place, he emphasized that social harmony and a conducive political environment are the main necessities now. Acharya recalled the roles of various stakeholders in the election's success and stressed the immediate need to stop the tendency to deify any specific individual or leader and create an environment for them to assume unconstitutional responsibilities in the future.

He clarified that this election would not have been possible if the political parties in parliament had not participated, if the security agencies had not provided meaningful cooperation, and if the Election Commission staff had not been diligent. Furthermore, he considered the parental role played by the President between the parties and the government, as well as the electoral atmosphere created by the general public, media, and intellectuals, as crucial links to success.

Stating that this process would not be complete without the active participation of voters in the election, Acharya urged everyone not to engage in the mission of unnecessarily hyping up or flattering anyone. He pointed out that although half the work of the election has been accomplished through collective initiative, many challenges still remain before the country.

He suggested that the future political path must be determined only within the confines of the constitution and laws, and he also wished for the country's longevity and a strong democracy.
