Poll Shows Limited US Public Enthusiasm for Military Action Against Iran

Washington D.C. A recent public opinion poll regarding the military actions taken by the United States and Israel against Iran indicates a lack of significant enthusiasm among the American public for this war. According to a Reuters and Ipsos survey conducted on Saturday and Sunday, only one in four Americans supported this military step.

Interestingly, this survey was conducted before the official news of American soldiers being killed was made public. The survey found that 43 percent of Americans opposed the war, while 29 percent had not formed a definite opinion on the matter.

Despite President Donald Trump declaring Iran an enemy of civilization and vowing to continue military action, public opinion does not appear to agree with him. There is no clear consensus on this issue, even within the Republican Party itself.

While 55 percent of Republicans supported the attack, 42 percent stated they would withdraw their support if American soldiers were killed or injured in this war. On the other hand, 74 percent of Democrat supporters directly opposed this war.

This result is analyzed as potentially delivering a major blow to the Trump administration in the upcoming midterm elections. Trump had promised during his election campaign to end endless wars and adopt an America First policy. However, by engaging in war with Iran contrary to his own promises, the risk of alienating voters in his core base has increased. Political analysts have warned that if this war does not conclude quickly and with minimal casualties, Trump will have to face the strong anger of his own supporters.

Doug Bandow, an expert from the Cato Institute, told Al Jazeera that the death of American soldiers has highlighted how expensive the true cost of war can be. He stated, 'Americans do not want to get entangled in Middle East conflicts. The death of soldiers has made it clear that this is not a video game but a serious and tragic reality.'
