Drone Explosion Reported Near Erbil International Airport in Northern Iraq

Baghdad. A drone exploded near Erbil International Airport in the northern region of Iraq. According to local media, large plumes of smoke were seen rising from the area where the drone crashed, causing panic in the surrounding areas. 

Official details regarding the incident and the extent of the damage are yet to be released. This airport, located in the Kurdish region, was targeted twice previously as part of the response to attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran. 

However, it was claimed that the air defense system intercepted those drone attacks that occurred on Saturday mid-flight. An investigation is underway to determine whether this incident is part of the same series of tensions or if it was caused by technical reasons.

The US military maintains a presence in this autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq as part of the international coalition against the terrorist group ISIS. The recent increase in military tension and drone confrontations in this area has further complicated the security situation in the Middle East. 

Security around the airport has now been tightened.
