Surkhet District Administration Bans Sale and Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages Ahead of Elections

Surkhet. The District Administration Office, Surkhet, has issued a notice prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The prohibition on the sale of alcoholic products in public places has been enforced following the decision of the Election Commission of Nepal, the directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the resolution passed by the District Security Committee meeting held on Thursday. Assistant Chief District Officer Dil Bahadur Karki of the District Administration Office, Surkhet, informed that the complete ban on sales is aimed at ensuring the House of Representatives election, scheduled for this Falgun 21, is conducted in a clean, fair, dignified, and fear-free environment.

“Considering the impact that the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages can have on peace and security, we have prohibited their sale and consumption to further enhance the overall peace and security management in Surkhet district,” he stated. “All concerned parties have been informed that legal action will be taken according to the law if any activity is found to be in defiance of this notice.”

Targeting the House of Representatives Election, 2082, the office has also notified that unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) that have obtained operational permits from the District Administration Office, Surkhet, are prohibited from flying from this Falgun 18 until the completion of the voting process. Furthermore, the administration has requested that the Holi festival on this Falgun 18 be celebrated while maintaining social harmony and fraternal relations.

Similarly, the administration has urged against carrying any symbols, flags, logos, stickers, clothing, hats or caps, vests, T-shirts, jackets, shirts, scarves, badges, masks, or lockets, or bags bearing the insignia or flag of any party, organization, or candidate. The District Administration Office, Surkhet, stated that this request is made to all to ensure the election is conducted peacefully, cleanly, fairly, and without fear, and to prevent any undesirable incidents.
