Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa Mocks Ravi Lamichhane Over Past Incidents

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has taken a jibe at Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane. Addressing an election rally organized by the Nepali Congress in Pokhara, Kaski on Friday, President Thapa stated that someone orchestrated the burning of properties including Singha Durbar on Bhadra 24 and used that opportunity to escape from jail. However, he did not explicitly name Lamichhane.

“One side fled from jail by taking advantage of the opportunity created by setting government properties including Singha Durbar on fire on Bhadra 24,” Thapa said, mocking Lamichhane, “That is extremism. Congress is not in favor of such extremism.”

President Thapa stated that Congress is not aligned with the extremist factions: one that claims nothing happened before Bhadra 23, and another that believes change will occur after government properties like Singha Durbar are burned on Bhadra 24.

Thapa further asserted that the country can no longer tolerate more extremism and urged the public not to allow extremist forces to gain significant power through the elections.

He mentioned that Congress has transformed and is committed to fulfilling its promises. Thapa also stated that Congress would investigate the assets of Sher Bahadur Deuba, who became Prime Minister after 2046 BS, and Gagan Thapa himself, who served as a minister. He added that if mistakes were made, they would not spare even family members.
